A practical and strategic session exploring how music can support and strengthen Personal Development in primary schools. This session will consider how singing, rhythm, movement, listening, creativity and ensemble work can contribute to PSHE, SMSC, character education, British Values, cultural capital, pupil voice, SEND inclusion, behaviour and wellbeing.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify how music can support key areas of your school’s Personal Development Plan.

  • Use music-making to support SEND inclusion, regulation, behaviour and readiness to learn.

  • Create opportunities for pupil voice, leadership, responsibility and active citizenship through music.

  • Strengthen cultural capital through inclusive repertoire, listening, performance and enrichment.

  • Plan practical next steps for embedding music across wider school life.

Through a balance of practical activity and strategic reflection, participants will explore how music can help children feel known, heard and valued, while broadening their understanding of the world around them. The session will include ideas for musical leadership roles, regulation routines, inclusive enrichment, diverse listening opportunities and meaningful links to school values, assemblies, safeguarding education and community events.

Delivered by ABRSM Voices Consultant Jenny Trattles, this session will equip you with practical tools, inclusive strategies and clear next steps to help make music a purposeful and impactful part of your school’s Personal Development provision.
